Rhizome long creeping, very slender. Culm filiform, subdensely tufted, 15-30 cm tall, trigonous, smooth.
Leaves few, to 1 mm wide; sheaths pale yellow to yellowish brown.
Spikes 3 or 4, erect; terminal spike staminate, linear, 0.5-2 cm long, ca. 1 mm wide, pale; lateral spikes pistillate, narrowly cylindrical, 0.5-1.5 cm long, ca. 1.5 mm wide, loosely few to several flowered. Bracts sheathing, 0.5-l cm long; lowest bract 1-3 cm long.
Pistillate glumes ovate, obtuse to acute at apex, pale to yellowish brown with green costa often forming a mucro at apex. Utricles erect, obovoid, trigonous, 2.5-3 mm long, finely several-nerved, glabrous; beak short, minutely bidentate. Achenes tightly inclosed, obovate, mitrate at apex, ca. 2 mm long, 3-side; stigmas 3, short.
